This nature-themed event was a ton of fun! I won 3rd place, which made me super giddy! There were about 12 incredible makeup artists competing to win along with a ton photographers who showed up to take photographs of each model. The thing that makes an event like this so amazing is how you can see how each photographer uniquely showcases your work. This creates an endless amount of possibilities - which is really wild for a creative, like myself. I was inspired by the transition in the season to fall, so I went for yellow glow around the eye, bridge of the nose, and chin. Subtle notes of green, red, and orange were added throughout her face and chest. I finished everything off with a pair of Ojitos Bonitos lashes in Tease to add drama that would bring out her eyes. Since I really wanted to showcase her natural beauty, I actually did not use any foundation so I could let her freckles shine through. Her curls were teased to create larger than life hair, along with the addition of various pieces of faux plants, such as the maple leaf. We actually had a chest piece of faux plants that fell of when we got out of the car, so we ditched the idea.
My model, Sunny, had such a positive energy that was so grand to be around during an event like this. She is an incredibly talented up and coming model, with such an amazing work ethic and personality that it really made the whole day that much more enjoyable. Without her, my vision would not have come to life in the same way and I would not have won. Towards the end of the event, I actually was pulled aside by a few photographers that wanted to continue to photograph my model and to my surprise -- me. It was a little odd at first, since I don't consider myself a model, but I ended up having a blast. One of the photographers that stayed late after to photograph us really stood out to me, so I will be sharing the pictures that he took as well. Without further ado, here are the rest of the photos from the Makeup Artist Showdown at Railyard Studio!
